The Top 10 Things To Do and See in Principe Real, Lisbon

Explore the collection of the Medeiros e Almeida Museum

This 18th century house is a 25-room collection of art from the 17th to the 20th centuries, ranging from jewels to pottery and paintings. In 1943 the building was bought by António Medeiros e Almeida, who transforms it into his home, where he moved after remodelling works. In the beginning of the 1970s, when Medeiros e Almeida decided to leave his private residency to his country, he destroyed the garden in order to build a new wing to house part of his decorative arts collection. António de Medeiros e Almeida was born in 1895; he was the eldest son of João Silvestre de Almeida, a successful doctor, and and Maria Amélia Medeiros e Almeida. António’s spirit of enterprise brought him into the world of business; his major social status allowed him to insure a comfortable income, that made possible the self-dedication to his art collection.
